Age of the plant
Plants for the production of Christmas trees and greenery are marked by age and transplanting with numbers and symbols:
Number of years in seedling bed / number of year in the field.
+ = the plant has been root cut.
s = the plant has been transplanted in the summer.
Examples:
1/0: 1 year in a seedling bed.
1/1: 1 year in a seedling bed + 1 year transplanted.
2/1s: 2 years in a seedling bed + 1 year transplanted in the summer time.
2/2: 2 years in a seedling bed + 2 years transplanted.
3/0+: 3 years in a seedling bed + root cut.

Healthy plants have a fine and dense network of vital, white roots.
Healthy roots provide the opportunity for the plant to establish itself and grow.
If the root system of the plant is unhealthy, the plant will stall the initial years in order to concentrate on root development.
